About me
With twenty years of teaching experience, Katie also has a PhD in education with a speciality in language and literacy. As both a member of the the Language and Literacy Researchers of Canada execute committee and an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta, Katie approaches her work with literacy from a contextualized and expansive understanding. Her research interests include the experiences of multilingual newcomers in elementary schools especially those who arrive in Grades 4 to 9 not having learned about print literacy in any language. Approaching research from a humanizing perspective where participants are included in the research process is of particular interest to Katie.
