About me
Hello! My name is Dan Coles. I am an Executive Staff Officer at the Alberta Teachers' Association (ATA) and have worked at the ATA since August of 2018. I currently work in the Teacher Employment Services (TES) program area. Prior to rejoining TES in September 2023, I spent 4 years working within the Association's regulatory functions as an investigating officer and presenting officer. I am currently the staff advisor to the English Language Arts Council and to two student locals (U of A and Keyano College). Prior to joining the ATA, I was a principal, assistant principal, and teacher with Elk Island Catholic Schools, primarily teaching junior high physical education and mathematics. I tried to stay active in Elk Island Catholic Teachers local by serving as secretary, as a vice president, and as member of the teacher welfare committee and negotiating sub-committee. I also was privileged to serve on two provincial ATA committees, the Professional Conduct Committee and the Teacher Qualification Services Committee. In my personal life, I am the proud husband of a high school English teacher and the father of five girls aged 12 - 20. In my spare time, I enjoy officiating ice/ball hockey and reading the Harry Bosch series by author Michael Connelly and reading the legal thrillers/mysteries of John Grisham.
