CNC Programming & Cutting in your Classroom
Thursday February 13, 2025 10:30am - 11:30am MST
In this session, you'll learn how to introduce CNC programming using G-Code to your students, then use a hobby router machine to cut out the results. G-Code is a relatively easy programming language to master, can be done in any word processing program, and the results checked online before committing to cutting it out. In this session, a demonstration of programming and cutting a sign using straight and curved lines on a 6" x 9" piece of MDF will be experienced, as well as some online software to incorporate shapes and images in a project. This project can be started in your classroom for less than $500 in hardware.

Multiple Representations for Electron Orbitals and Energy
Thursday February 13, 2025 11:45am - 12:45pm MST
Have you every wondered where the shapes of the s, d, and p orbitals in atoms come from? Do you students struggle with the concept of energy? In this session participants will apply hands-on wave-particle duality in describing the electron in an atom to see how a quantum description of nature provides answers. Then we will continue with multiple representations and apply the idea to describing energy flow within a system. Teachers of Science 9, Science 10, 20 and 30, Chemistry 20 and 30, and Physics 20 and 30 will find ideas from this session for their classroom. All the resources used during this session are classroom ready in English and in French for free from the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics.

Copresenter for this session is Niane Abdoul Nemba.
