Re-thinking Student Individualized Program Plans (IPP's): Moving from conference to conversation
Thursday February 13, 2025 1:00pm - 2:00pm MST
While student Individualized Program Plan (IPP) meetings are key processes to create and support meaningful learning opportunities for students, these meetings can create tensions and uncertainties for families (Alberta Education, 2015). As a result, misunderstandings and communication breakdowns between families and school teams can occur. The session “Student Individualized Program Plan (IPPs): Moving from conference to conversation” will provide educators with a greater insight into a parent’s perspective of IPP meetings. Combined with educational theory and lived experiences, this session will present approaches and structures to support more authentic and collaborative IPP conversations with families that centres the gifts and abilities of students.

Numerical Response in Social 30-1
Friday February 14, 2025 10:30am - 11:30am MST
Alberta Education has indicated that the Vretta online assessment platform will fundamentally change how selected response questions are structured for students in the near future. In the context of Social Studies, multiple choice has been the sole method that selected response questions have been formatted for decades.

This presentation seeks to introduce Numerical Response style questions into the Humanities with an emphasis on Social Studies 30-1. A wide variety of questions will be provided to participants to help conceptualize the various formatting structures that Alberta Education might pursue as it rolls out its new assessment platform.

Vretta's new selected response question format strongly correlates to older Numerical Response formats, as seen in the Science PATs and DIPs. As such, our question formats will be strongly influenced by the formatting structure used in the Sciences.

This will be a workshop-style presentation in which participants will be given an extensive sampling of questions to engage in discussion with each other and the presenters.
