Land Reclamation In The Classroom - Educating Through Game Play

How do we teach the next generation to reclaim disturbed land, to heal the Earth? With ever growing environmental pressures, everyone must understand the importance of land reclamation. Join Valerie Miller, PhD, to explore the game “Become An Earth Doctor”. This Dungeons and Dragons inspired game allows participants to become land reclamation practitioners, walking them through key steps and decisions. In this session, participants will be introduced to land reclamation, explore gameplay, and be introduced to resources to host in their own classroom solo or with support.

Energy. Climate change. The environment. The economy. The future. All topics of importance and of concern for many students. We are here to help bring them into the classroom! Join Future Energy Systems to learn about the University of Alberta’s world-leading research that will help Canada transition to a low net carbon economy, and explore educational energy resources produced by the program, including videos, activities, games, and classroom visits. This session will introduce teachers to resources they can take home and use in their classrooms to explore energy and the environment, as well as opportunities to connect with experts. After learning about many of the resources available, get on your feet and get hands-on with resources available, including our children’s book series and a series of demos.

Elementary Music and Jr/Sr Band teachers collaborate to share ideas and resources to support learning in the Music/Band Room. Open discussion around how to best transition between grade divisions of music to ensure retention of students will be part of our discussion. The focus will be based on instrumental play, but all music teachers are invited to participate and contribute.
