Math Vocabulary - What Exactly is the Correct Term In Our New Math Grades 4-6
Friday February 14, 2025 10:30am - 11:30am MST
So many of the terms we use each day in mathematics classes are the very concepts we want our students to learn and make connections with. Using the appropriate terminology can provide clarity and consistency. Do your grade partners use the same language as you?  Would students entering different math classrooms in your school hear the same language? Come and check out some of the math terminology we have for you to engage with.

We will explore some of the key concepts that are taught and how some of the language we use could confuse students! This comes from a student response that went something like" that's not what my teacher called it last year'. A statement such as "Which of the expressions below is the correct equation?" is an example of incorrectly using math language. This is a great way to talk about key concepts and improve our pedagogy with correct mathematical language.

Case Studies and More! Unpacking Concepts in the New Science Curriculum
Friday February 14, 2025 11:45am - 12:45pm MST
How do we engage students in learning all the new concepts in their science curriculum? Learning e terms and their definitions is always a starting point but it's just surface level learning. This session will look at ways that we can ask our students to become independent thinkers and start to draw connections between what they know and where we need them to go.  Participants will take part in several interactive activities that they can adapt to their own student levels and use within the classroom. Yup, another roll up your sleeve event!

Instructional strategies are always areas that we as teachers continue to grow in. As we are challenging our students to learn content knowledge, we also want them to become independent thinkers and make connections between the concepts they have learned. providing different learning activities that allow students to practice these skills is the goal of this session!

Place Value is More Than Numbers in a Column! Chris Zarski
Friday February 14, 2025 1:00pm - 2:00pm MST
How do you really know what your students understand about Place Value? It is such an important concept that we spend time developing over a child's education. This session will look at what the key aspects of place value are and how ALL 6 need to be mastered for us to claim our students KNOW Place Value.  We will work alongside manipulatives and examples to highlight the aspects and share an assessment tool that you can use with your students to check for understanding. Get ready to roll up your sleeves!
