Facilitator: Karen Harder
Space: Collaboration Session - Table 1 Thursday, 1:00-2:00
Discussion:

ACTS – Aspiring Change Through Service
We run a locally developed ACTS program in our school to help give students tools and opportunities to serve their communities in a variety of ways. I would love to share what we do to build citizenship, in our school, community and beyond, and would also love to hear of how other schools are doing the same in their students and staff. This could be a way to build contacts as well as awareness of similar programs in other areas.

HALL B: Collaboration Session - Table 2 - Implementing the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) (Lucy Calkins)
Thursday February 13, 2025 1:00pm - 2:00pm MST
Facilitator: Ashika Chapman
Space: Collaboration Session - Table 2 Thursday, 1:00-2:00
Discussion:
Table Talk Facilitation: Implementing the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) (Lucy Calkins) can be more manageable when teachers leverage Writing Pathways, checklists, and assessments effectively. These tools help track student progress, guide instruction, and simplify reporting, making the process more efficient. By integrating them seamlessly, educators can create a student-centered learning environment that supports growth in reading and writing.
Leading questions that address real challenges teachers may face:
  1. How can teachers streamline the use of Writing Pathways to make assessment and goal setting more manageable?
  2. What are the best ways to integrate the TCRWP checklists and rubrics into daily instruction without adding to teacher workload?
  3. How can pre- and post-assessments be used to inform instruction, support struggling students, and guide reporting?
  4. What practical strategies can help teachers manage the reading and writing workshop structure while meeting curriculum requirements?
  5. How can teachers differentiate instruction within the workshop model to support students at varying skill levels?
  6. What are the biggest misconceptions about TCRWP implementation, and how can they be addressed?
  7. How can teachers use small group instruction and conferring effectively within the workshop model?
  8. What reporting strategies can help teachers align TCRWP data with school/district requirements?
  9. How can teachers foster student independence and accountability in reading and writing workshops?
  10. What common obstacles do teachers face when implementing TCRWP, and what solutions have worked in real classrooms?
